Mr. Keith Shull completed undergraduate work in 1982 at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas earning a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. In 2010, he received his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. During his career, Mr. Shull has served in the capacity of teacher at the middle school level and as an administrator at both middle and high school. He looks forward to the new challenges being afforded to him by Newman International Academy.
Ms. Knauer was born and raised in Duncanville, Texas. She attended Howard Payne University where she received a scholarship and admittance into the Guy D. Newman Honors Academy. Ms. Knauer had to return to Dallas, she then attended Dallas Baptist University and completed her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies (with an emphasis in Business Management and Psychology) in August of 2013. Ms. Knauer has worked in various teaching positions in Preschools and Pre-K, from 2010-2016. Teaching Kindergarten at NIA is a dream come true for Ms. Knauer and she is looking forward to being a part of the Newman community!
Ms. Dana Peoples holds a BS in Business Management from Dallas Baptist University. This will be Dana’s first year at Newman as a Kindergarten teacher with her certifications in Elementary and ESL. Ms. Peoples has volunteered with her church’s preschool area for about 8 years and has a deep passion for children. She is looking forward to a wonderful year filled of learning, laughter, fun and adventure!
Mrs. Amanda Wise holds a BA degree in Early Childhood Education from Lubbock Christian University. She previously taught kindergarten in Grand Junction, Colorado. This is her first year teaching at Newman International Academy and she is looking forward to making this a great and successful year.
1st Grade Teacher
Kelly Nguyen studied Professional Development at Amberton University where she graduated. Kelly continued her studies in teaching and proceeded to teach 3rd grade for three years at the #2 school in the Fort Worth Independent School District. Passionate about teaching, moving to Newman International Academy of Mansfield was a natural fit, an environment which focuses on teaching to each student in such a way that works best for them. Kelly has an amazing husband, Thomas, and three beautiful daughters, Avery, Alexa and Audrey, who are all dedicated to helping her achieve the goal of high expectations and rigor for her students. This fantastic support system helps bless each child she teaches.
2nd Grade Teacher
Ms. Viard is a 2nd grade ELAR and Social studies teacher at Newman International Academy Mansfield. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and is certified to teach EC- 6th grade.
3rd Grade Teacher
Ms. Bortzfield is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an ESL Supplemental. This is her first year at Newman Academy. She is looking forward to making this a wonderful and productive year! In her free time, you can usually find her with a book in her hand. When she’s not reading, she enjoys crocheting for friends and family.

Ms. Hayes holds a BS (Magna cum Laude) in Elementary Education from Temple University. She taught in Pennsylvania for 2 years and in North Carolina for 5 years prior to coming to Newman International.

Mrs. May teaches ELAR/Social Studies. She has teacher certification from the University of Texas, a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia. Her 17 years teaching experience, primary through adult education, includes Education Coordinator/Instructor Sr. for a Colonial History Foundation and Education Coordinator/Spokesperson with Concerned Women for America of Virginia. Mrs. May and her husband enjoy traveling and nature studies.
Dana Sosebee has a Bachelor’s of Music from Dallas Baptist University and she is also a Kodaly Certified Music Specialist. She has been teaching music to grades K-12 and coordinating fine arts programs for 16 years in public, private, and charter schools and is very excited to be part of such an outstanding educational institution such as Newman Academy. Outside of school, Dana teaches voice and piano lessons, and directs community and church choirs, plays, and musicals.
Matthew Sosebee has been teaching for seven years. After receiving his Bible degree from Jacksonville College, he served as a student pastor for 13 years. He received his Bachelor degree from Tarleton State University and has taught 5th grade ELA and 7th grade ELA as well as 8th grade History. Matt has over 21 years of combined teaching experience in the classroom and student ministry.
Rachel Staalsen is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Early Childhood. She has 23 years of teaching experience in public, private, and home education and has taught every grade level. Her experience ranges from kindergarten, dyslexic remediation, and elementary engineering classes to logic and reasoning courses and gifted education. Mrs Staalsen was born in London and has lived on three continents. She is looking forward to challenging her students with hands-on projects and mind-bending puzzles.
Janet Halvorson received her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Interdisciplinary Studies specializing in business administration and Christian ministries, from Dallas Baptist University. She is Texas-certified to teach early childhood to 4th grade, Special Education all ages, and ESL for all ages. Previous to joining the Newman staff, Mrs. Halvorson worked as an academic writing tutor at Northlake College in Irving, Texas. She has been teaching for 24 years and has taught language arts, special education, and computer skills. When working for Fort Worth I.S.D. she was an Elementary Special Education teacher, as well as, a High School English Resource Teacher.
